We have some exciting news about autumn half-term in Pontypridd. At Sugar and Spice we love this time of year and we always love an event. This year for Halloween, we are bringing back our pumpkin decorating and spooky crafting event. Once again we are teaming up with the Salad Bar to offer a ticket-only halloween-week event. It was great fun last year.
We are also involved in a Pontypridd town event, which will delight fans of the Netflix film Kpop Demon Hunters. Inspired by the film, we are inviting music-loving, thrill-seeking, demon-hunting children to a pre-halloween event called Pontypridd Goes K-Pop, with face-painting, a fun challenge and a chance to meet and have a photo with our special guests.
And for children who missed our Fairtrade Fortnight Toy Design Workshop last Saturday, we are announcing another opportunity to learn about our exciting competition with Lanka Kade. You have until the 7th of November to get in your designs for a Welsh figure and until then you can visit us for inspiration and guidance but half-term will provide an excellent opportunity to get your entries in.

Design a Toy for Wales Competition
Follow us on Facebook for updates
Fairtrade toy and gift company Lanka Kade have a great range of chunky wooden figures depicting all sorts of people, creatures and vehicles. Although they have a lovely Scottish collection available featuring a bag-piper and nessie, they don’t currently have a Welsh collection available. But they are keen to fix this and have given us an excellent opportunity for local creative children in the Pontypridd area to shape a future collection of toys.
Help us on our mission to start a new Welsh range of fair trade wooden figures for Lanka Kade. They are looking for a collection of animals, people, myths and landmarks to represent our nation. The winners of this competition as chosen by Lanka Kade will receive a prize from Sugar and Spice and could potentially see their design adapted into one of those toys and sold around the country.
During Fairtrade Fortnight 2026 we held workshops in collaboration with Fairtrade Pontypridd to inspire children with their designs. They were really popular with children of all ages and we loved their toy designs so far. We are pleased to announce, we are planning another workshop during half-term so keep an eye on our socials for details. You can also come by the shop any time to see our inspiration board and the current range of figures from Lanka Kade.
More competition details and rules can be seen here or on our Facebook event page.
