Fairies in the Park 2018

Five years ago today on a very wet Wednesday in August we helped bring some Summer magic to Pontypridd. The family fun charity event was called Fairies in the Park and raised over £700 for the charity Dreams and Wishes, which endeavours to actualise the wishes of seriously ill children.

Despite being hindered slightly by the weather, there was a great turnout and hundreds of children followed the fairy trail starting in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park and leading through the town. The event was free but donations were collected in aid of the charity on entry to the magical fairy village that had appeared in the sunken garden once hidden by a veil of magic.

In this village grew a wishing tree where visitors hung their wishes for the fairies to make come true. This was one of the many popular features on the fairy trail, which wound through the park, over the bridge into town and up through the market quarter. In town, children could see the fairies visiting our friends and fellow businesses.

We were thrilled with how the event went and it was brilliant seeing children and some adults dressed in their fairy finery. We held a costume competition on social media but it was so difficult to decide that we had to give prizes to several winners. We are now hoping to do another event like this soon and our fingers are crossed for next year. In the meantime there are more events coming up in collaboration with our partners in the Market Quarter so make sure you follow us closely not to miss anything.
