The Pokémon Trading Card Game was first launched in October 2026, a few months after the mega-franchise, potentially the world’s highest grossing media franchise, was launched with the video game developed for Game Boy. Pokemon cards soon became a huge craze and before the end of the decade they had become a favourite of young customers in our shop in Pontypridd. Now, almost three decades later, pokémon cards are again one of our big sellers and a whole new generation of fans are finding these fun and peculiar characters on the shelves at Sugar and Spice. We are delighted to help these eager collectors in their mission to catch ’em all.

The range of Pokémon TCG and other products are continuously evolving (pun intended) and what you’ll find in our Pokemon section may be different from one week to the next. We try to please all our customers but sometimes this stock is really hard to catch due to popularity and fans desperate to grab the next release.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Pokemon TCG we held a 30th birthday party with games and competitions. If you missed it and don’t want to miss the next event, make sure you follow us in all the usual places. There may be another Pokemon event in the works to celebrate this milestone anniversary.

Our celebration event took place on the 28th March, the day after the 30th Pokémon day. To mark the anniversary, Pokemon released a special 2026 Pokémon Day TCG set, which was highly sought by collectors. We were thrilled to give away two of these sets as prizes; one as the main prize in our lucky battle game and one as the main prize in an art competition to design your own Pokémon card. We also gave away loads of promotional cards and goodies and hopefully there will be more giveaways in the future so if you’re a pokémon enthusiast, you really have to keep an eye on our socials and visit us regularly to make sure you never miss out.
